The Othersiders – CartoonNetwork’s cnREAL
Not only was I not aware that the CartoonNetwork had spun a new reality channel called “cnREAL” which is composed of reality-based shows for kids and teenagers, but it comes as a surprise (no, really!) to me that they are soon airing a new Ghost hunting reality show for kids. By kids.
The show is called “The Othersiders“.
This is what their website’s “About us” page reads:
We’re five friends interested in the paranormal, the mysterious and the exploration of the unknown. We call ourselves THE OTHERSIDERS.
Using state of the art technology, we conduct firsthand investigations of locations with reported paranormal activity. We search for evidence, make a verdict and post all of our findings here on the site.
The kids, ranging from 13 years to 16 years of age, drive around local cities exploring urban legends and haunted places.
You see, there is nothing wrong with children being educated about the paranormal. Whether you believe in it or not, your kids will soon be avoiding using the bathroom because “Bloody Mary” lives there, so be ready for that talk.
What I do see as being wrong, is how lightly this whole “paranormal investigations” are taken. Let’s not forget that smart spirits can take advantage of dumb investigators.
I will sum up this whole CartoonNetwork project with a single expression: “Facepalm”
