I owe an apology to the readers here at GT, and any individuals who may have been affected by the story below and I offer it sincerely.
A recent story that I accessed originally through Facebook, then through a report at WPBF.com stated that a group calling themselves The Satanic Temple were rallying in support of Florida Governor Rick Scott allowing students to decide for themselves on the issue of prayer in schools. WPBF, other sources referenced, and myself were taken in by a hoax as revealed by Ken Shephard at Newsbusters.org
While the mainstream media has been transfixed with the Manti Te’o fake girlfriend story, it seems many outlets in the gullible liberal media were biting on another hoax, this one involving Florida Gov. Rick Scott and a band of Satanists supposedly set to stage a rally expressing their support for the Florida Republican.
Among the journalists taken in by the fake story was MSNBC’s Martin Bashir, who could not wipe the devilish grin off his face as he reported what he thought to be a legitimate news story on his January 14 program, in a segment entitled “Dread Scott.”
I have removed that story from our files.
Using fictitious names and a couple of fake websites, the perpetrators of the hoax went to some effort to gain credibility. If I have been gullible, at least I am not alone. Bogus UFO videos and photos, photo-shopped ghost images and every quality of Bigfoot costume make the rounds of the internet and we here at GT try to cull them out as fakes, and speaking for myself my desire is to separate the proverbial wheat from the chaff. As there is so much “chaff” and so little “wheat” it is just likely some will get mixed in, so it is only right that if I am going to call others out on their fakery I must call myself out for being taken in by it.
