Dark Skies: An Alien Abduction Movie

Dark Skies: An Alien Abduction Movie

From the producers of Paranormal Activity, Insidious, and Sinister comes Dark Skies: a supernatural thriller that follows a young family living in the suburbs. As husband and wife Daniel and Lacey Barret witness an escalating series of disturbing events involving their family, their safe and peaceful home quickly unravels. When it becomes clear that the Barret family is being targeted by an unimaginably terrifying and deadly force, Daniel and Lacey take matters in their own hands to solve the mystery of what is after their family.

Alien abductions are back on the big screen. Remember watching Spielberg’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind? What about the infamous Travis Walton story, Fire in the sky? Well for the last few decades, the big screen has tried to capture the audience’s love for the extraterrestrials. I said “tried” because I feel like no matter what spin they write into a movie script, there is always something lacking from their stories. The movies feel flat and predictable, especially when the writers and directors don’t know how to convey fear other than using stereotypical horror movie scenes. The art of suspense is dead. Yet, they still manage to release one of these movies every few years. Enter Dark Skies.

Dark Skies is directed by Scott Stewart and seems to be a darker take on alien abductions. Past the heaping piles of “alien abduction” failures that have come out of Hollywood studios, Dark Skies has the potential of breaking the mold just because it is being produced by some big names in the paranormal/horror world. Of course, more money doesn’t necessarily mean a better movie (*cough* Cloud Atlas *cough*).

Dark Skies is the latest of these types of movies. When the Barret family learns that they’ve become targets for beings that come from out of this world, they take matters into their own hands and use everything they got to protect their family against these nightly visitors. Dark Skies is painted as a dark alien abduction movie with plenty of thrills to keep the supernatural-genre-loving people happy.
