Enfield Poltergeist: Believers & Skeptic Talk

Enfield Poltergeist: Believers & Skeptic Talk

The Enfield Poltergeist is one of those cases in the paranormal that has always stolen my attention. From the first time I had read about the case, I was mesmerized by the amount of credible witnesses that stood on both sides of the story.

From the police officers who could attest to seeing strange happenings inside the house, to the news journalist who believed that this case was nothing more than the doings of young Janet Hodgson. The Enfield Poltergeist case is one of those cases that seem too good to be true.

For what it’s worth, There is a recent interview that was done with Janet Hodgson about her ordeal in the house on Green Street. It’s surprising since she and her siblings rarely talk to the media about the case nowadays. The interview was done with Guy Lyon Playfair (researcher in the Enfield case) and skeptic Debbie Hyde. All three were guests on the “This Morning” UK television show.

Watch the interview and pay close attention to the claims of both Janet and Guy, and compare them to the ones from Debbie Hyde. She begins by talking about known hoaxes in the paranormal and the unreliability of eyewitness accounts. An unjust comparison given that there were several witnesses who claimed to have experienced something paranormal.

Believe me, I’m as skeptical as the next science-driven person, but I’m also skeptical of those who make sweeping generalizations to prove a point.

The Enfield Poltergeist case is full of lies and mysteries. It’s well known that the girls were caught trying to fake some of the evidence, yet some of the other evidence has had no explanation. Maybe this is why so many researchers in this case are discouraged from prodding deeper into the case.
