This week we go back to that golden age of the 30s.
What’s better than good old B&W Cinema? Color you say? Pish Posh! Why color couldn’t shine B&W’s shoes! Color is nothing more than a B&W wannabe! Color is…..Colored! Did you ever see a picture after it was colored by a 3 yr old kid? An example of what happens when you fool with color!
So, I suppose you get the idea that our film is in B&W? Well, you’d be right Jackson! This FV is a 1933 classic called ‘Island of Lost Souls’ based on the H.G. Wells novel, The Island of Doctor Moreau.
Island of Lost Souls is a non stop action packed romp, not for the faint hearted (whoever they are). The film takes place on a remote island run by a mad scientist type guy who is trying to transform animals into people. The good Dr. Moreau creates several mutants from his failed experiments who live throughout the Island jungle. Although these half breeds are not exactly house trained, they are under the doc’s control, to some extent that is and develop into a quasi civilized society.
As you may have guessed, someone has to become shipwrecked in order for this whole whackadoo scenario to play out and that’s just what happens as ocean traveler Edward Parker ends up on the Island and quickly finds out what lurks in the shadows. As things develop Moreau tries to get Parker and his best experimental mutant girl Lota to get it on, but Lota still has 3 inch claws from her days as a Panther, if you get my drift. Eventually the Mutants revolt and the whole Island turns upside down.
If you pay close attention you will see some valuable life lessons come to fruition….Or, maybe you won’t. Frankly I don’t really care.
