‘Near Death Experiences’, or NDEs, have been reported ever since humans graced this planet. Stories of a person being in the brink of death, finding themselves in a point in time where everything is slowed. Everything around them, their thoughts, feelings, emotions and perception of time, everything is skewed. Copacetic.

These stories are familiar to many of us. I’m sure most of you have a relative who has gone through some tragic event and therefore put them close to death, or through death and back. The stories almost always involve a dark place with a very angelic light at the end of a tunnel. Such descriptions like the painting above, painted by hieronymus bosch in the 16th century titled: “Ascent of the Blessed: Visions of the Hereafter“.

I myself am torn between the metaphysical and the scientific side of NDEs. I do believe in an afterlife. The scientific statements and explanations that are against NDE experiences present themselves with strong conviction.

I recently did a post about a group of researchers who are planning to setup a real world experiment to test if NDEs are real or not. I’m curious to find out the results of this experiment.
